The basics
What is Screenshot Studio?
A tool that turns screenshots of your website or app into a narrated demo. Each screen is shown in turn while a voice explains it and a pointer shows where to click.
Do I need to install anything?
No. The studio is a single file that opens in your web browser. You can run it from your own computer, or upload it to your website and open it from there.
Which browser should I use?
Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge on a laptop, tablet or desktop computer. They have the best voices and they support dictation. Other browsers will open the studio but may offer fewer voices.
Can I build a demo on my phone?
No. The studio needs a bigger screen, so it only opens on a laptop, tablet or desktop. The demos you make play on any device, phones included.
Do I need to record my voice?
No. You type the words, or dictate them, and a built-in voice reads them aloud. To change what is said, you just change the words.
Where are my screenshots kept?
In your own web browser, on your own computer. They are not uploaded to us. The finished demo and its project file are saved to your computer like any other download.
Making a demo
How do I get my screens into the studio?
Either upload screenshots you have already taken, or use Capture to open your own website inside the studio and press Snap on each screen you want.
Why does Capture need the studio file on my website?
Web browsers only allow a page to take a picture of another page when both are on the same website. So for Capture, upload the studio file to your site (any folder) and open it from there. Uploading screenshots works anywhere.
Can I change a demo after I have saved it?
Yes. Every time you save a demo you also get a project file. Open the studio, choose Open a saved project, pick that file, make your changes and save again.
What if I close the page half way through?
Your work is saved in the browser as you go. Next time you open the studio, press Carry on where you left off.
Can I have slides with no talking?
Yes. Answer No to narration on that slide and say how many seconds it should stay on screen.
Sharing a demo
What do I end up with?
One web page file with all the pictures built in. Upload it to your website and link to it, or send the file to someone.
What does a viewer need?
Just a web browser with the sound turned on. There is nothing for them to install and no account to create.
Will the voice sound the same for everyone?
The voice is provided by the viewer’s own browser, so it can differ a little between devices. Chrome and Edge give the most natural result.
Free trial and subscription
What do I get in the free trial?
The whole studio, with no time limit and no sign-up. The only difference is that demos you save carry a large “Trial mode – Screenshot Studio” watermark.
How do I remove the watermark?
Subscribe for £15 a month. You are given a licence key straight away. In the studio, press the Trial mode button at the top, paste the key and press Unlock. Then save your demo again.
How many computers can I use my key on?
Up to 3 computers or websites. If you need to move it, contact us and we will reset it.
How do I cancel?
Go to Manage my subscription, enter your licence key and you are taken to a secure page where you can cancel or change your card. There is no minimum term. Cancelling takes effect straight away.
What happens to my demos if I cancel?
Demos you saved while subscribed stay exactly as they are, with no watermark. The studio goes back to trial mode as soon as you cancel, so any demo you save after that will have the watermark again.
Does the studio need the internet?
Only to check your licence key now and then. If you are offline for a few days it carries on working unlocked. In trial mode it needs no internet at all.
How is payment taken?
By card through Stripe, a secure payment company. We never see or store your card details.
